IKEA Australia is going to spend $4.5 million on developing electric car chargers
The Swedish furniture company is considering putting electric car chargers at ten of its store outlets.
You can find these shops all over Australia. There are ten store spots around Australia that are being explored for the addition of charging stations by the furniture giant IKEA. These charging units are said to be able to provide power to six electric cars at the same time.According to a spokesman for IKEA Australia, the charging bays are going to be built at the company's retail stores in Richmond and Springvale in Victoria, as well as in the locations of Adelaide, Perth, and Canberra.IKEA shops in Rhodes, Tempe, and Marsden Park in New South Wales are among the locations included in the charging station project. Additionally, the project involves two of the Swedish furniture giant's Queensland locations, North Lakes and Logan.IKEA Australia has announced that it is now in the process of building a charging point at its Central Distribution Centre in Sydney.
According to sources, the station will have the ability to charge up to 28 electric cars (EVs) on the grounds. All of the websites, on the other hand, will be limited to the use of the delivery drivers for the brand and will not be available to the general public.
"We are aware that limited access to charging infrastructure is a significant barrier for our delivery partners to be able to make the switch to an electric vehicle," said Alexandra Kelly, the Zero Emissions Delivery Lead for IKEA Australia, in a statement that was released to the public. In order to provide access to electric charging at the point of completion, when orders are being picked up, we have made an investment in a national network of specialized chargers for electric cars and vans at all of IKEA's sites.IKEA said that the planned units are a mix of AC chargers with an output of 20kW and 22kW for "overnight charging," as well as fast DC plugs and plugs with 75kW and 150kW of power, respectively. The Swedish furniture manufacturer stated the EV charging project would be carried out by Jet Charge and is planned to be finished “by the end of 2024," but no precise date has been released. As of May 2024, IKEA revealed that 40 percent of its customer transports were made by zero-tailpipe pollution trucks.
