Ford Performance's FP700 Package Brings the F-150 Sport Truck Back to Life
Ford Performance's supercharger upgrade delivers the F-150's 5.0-liter V-8 700 horsepower—with a factory warranty..
There was a period when sports vehicles were common on the streets. The origins may be traced back to the 1960s, when Chevrolet initially installed strong, large blocks under the hoods of their trucks. The crazy GMC Syclone, an all-wheel-drive truck decades ahead of its time that could outrun a Ferrari 348t in straight-line acceleration, arrived in the 1990s. The trend also gave birth to the full-size Chevrolet Silverado 454SS and Ford SVT F-150 Lightning, both of which were all about displacement and not much more. The Ram 1500 SRT-10 received the Dodge Viper's V-10 engine and manual transmission.Highs: 700 horsepower, excellent fit and finish, and a guaranteeThough some thought the single-cab sport vehicle (the SRT-10 was also available in a four-door version) was a stupid idea, it served a function. It was the ideal option for individuals looking for a fast journey, but it also required a truck bed to carry a motorcycle or do other light-duty chores. Something more useful than a Mustang or a Camaro, as well as huge burnouts. Then one day, the sport truck vanished. Chevrolet's performance truck attempt was never very successful. The SRT-10 was discontinued after just three years of production. To the chagrin of aficionados, Ford reintroduced the Lightning moniker as an electric pickup. Toyota, in some ways, kept the dream alive with an OEM supercharger package for the previous-generation Tundra that increased power to 504 horsepower.Sport trucks nowadays are one of two types: desert-pounding, whoop-de-do-bouncing, extended suspension-travel, and knobby-tired off-road vehicles emblazoned with ZR2, TRD, Raptor, or TRX badges. Sure, in their most powerful incarnations, they're insanely fast, but none are accessible in a single-cab design or are geared for street driving. The Ford Performance department now provides a solution for people who crave the sport trucks of yesteryear: the FP700 package. What exactly is the FP700 package? The FP700 is not a model that is mass-produced. Instead, it's a components package that will turn any 2021 or newer Ford F-150 equipped with the 400-hp 5.0-liter V-8 into a 700-hp monster. Torque increases from 410 to 590 pound-feet. A Whipple 3.0-liter supercharger, an intercooler, an engine-calibration tool, and all the required hoses and hardware are all included in the $12,350 kit.The FP700 also comes with Ford Performance fender vents, floor mats, and bedside graphics. There's also a revised grille, an aero delete on the rocker panel, a rear lowering kit to balance off the ride height, and 22-inch wheels lifted from the Ford Expedition Stealth Performance. The tires aren't included..
